The University of Toronto is a well-established public research university located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is the largest university in Canada and is widely acknowledged as a global leader in education, innovation, and advanced research.
Founded in 1827 through a royal charter as King’s College, it was the first institution of higher education in Upper Canada. In its early years, the university was governed by the Church of England. In 1850, it adopted its current name after transitioning into a secular institution.
The University of Toronto offers more than 700 undergraduate programs across a wide range of disciplines. These include Humanities and Social Sciences, Life Sciences, Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Management and Commerce, Computer Science, Physical Education, Architecture, and Music.
To support international students, the University of Toronto provides a variety of scholarships, bursaries, and fellowships. Most of these scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence and are granted at the time of admission to the university.
University of Toronto Scholarship
Each year, the University of Toronto grants admission scholarships to newly admitted international students. Among these is the university’s most prestigious scholarship program for international applicants, the Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship Program. This is the only fully funded scholarship available at the University of Toronto.

The applicant must be an international student
The applicant should be an exceptional and talented thinker
The applicant must show dedication to both school and community
The applicant should demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and productivity
The applicant must display a strong commitment to learning and intellectual curiosity
The applicant should have proven leadership abilities
Applicants must currently be in their final year of secondary school or must have graduated no earlier than June 2021
Applicants must plan to begin their studies at the University of Toronto in September 2022 (students already enrolled in post-secondary education are not eligible; students beginning studies at another post-secondary institution in January 2022 will also not be considered)
Application Process:
Applicants must first receive a nomination from their school (high schools that have not yet been contacted or verified are required to apply to participate in the program).
Applicants must apply for admission to the University of Toronto for the 2022 academic year and complete their admission application before the specified deadlines.
Applicants should note that they will be considered for the Pearson Scholarship only for their first-choice program at the University of Toronto.
After the university receives the school nomination and the student has applied for admission, eligible students may complete the online Lester B. Pearson Scholarship application.
Special Requirement:
Any international student who has been nominated by their school will be required to apply for the Lester B. Pearson International Student Program.
Pearson Scholarship Deadlines:
School nomination deadline: November 30, 2021
Student OUAC application deadline: December 14, 2021 (This is the final date to submit the OUAC application. However, students are strongly encouraged to apply before November 7, 2021, as many programs fill quickly and popular programs may close early.)
Final scholarship application deadline: January 17, 2022
Scholarship Coverage:
The Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship Program covers tuition fees, textbooks, incidental costs, travel expenses, and full residence support for four years of study. This scholarship is valid only at the University of Toronto.
Note:
The University of Toronto does not require applicants to submit a separate application for most of its scholarships. Scholarship recipients are selected based on their admission applications. A student’s high school academic results and test performance play a crucial role in the selection process.
